Who is Marketa Vondrousova – Wimbeldon 2023 Champion?

Do you know who is Marketa Vondrousova? When she won an Olympics medal? Her journey to become the first unseeded player to win Wimbeldon Women’s title ever in history?

On 15th july 2023, with a forehand volley winner closing the game and winning the match against Ons Jabeur, Marketa Vondrousova wrote history by becoming the first ever unseeded player to win Wimbeldon Women’s title.But there are certainly things about her that you don’t know.

Marketa Vondrousova comes from a sports family.Her mother Jindriska Anderlova was a volleyball who played for Slavia Prague.Her father is the one who inspired her to play tennis.He also played tennis for recreational purposes. Marketa’s maternal grandfather was František Frk was Czech national pentathlon champion in 1935.So sports seems to be in her blood from generations.

Marketa Vondrousova was interested and played other sports too.She played football,floorball and table-tennis too before making up her mind to choose tennis.

She is fond of tattoos. Marketa has many tattoos on her body.Some of the tattoos have very motivational meanings whereas many are for aesthetics.She had her first tattoo at the age of 16 on her body.She has more than 10 tattoos on both her arms.”No rain, no flowers” on her right hand elbow means that success does not come easily. Vandrousova also has inked the famous five Olympics rings on her body.

When it comes to her career in Tennis then she is  a former world No. 1 junior. She made her debut on the ITF Junior Circuit when she was 13 years old and won both the singles and doubles events at her first tournament.In 2014,she had one of the best early times in his tennis careers when she reached the semi-finals of both Wimbeldon and the French Open.She was the finalist in the French Open 2019.

Marketa Vondrousova represented Czech Republic in 2020 Olympics and reached the final where she lost to Belinda Bencic in three sets and was awarded the Olympics silver medal.If summarized in a flash then her career is as :

In the Wimbledon 2023 Women’s singles final post-match presentation she said “I dont’ really know what is happening right now. It is an amazing feeling.After everything I have been through, I had a cast last year at this time. This is amazing.It’s amazing (to have my husband here) since tomorrow is our first wedding anniversary.My coach said that if I win a Grand Slam, he is going to get one (tattoo) also. I think we are going tomorrow to get one.”

It was none but a dream run by Marketa Vondrousova and can be felt by her sister in her winning moments.She has beaten Ons Jabeur by 6-4,6-4 in straight two sets and becomes the first ever unseeded player to win the Wimbeldon title in history.
