England vs Australia Fourth Test: The Ashes- Preview and Prediction

The battle for the glory of Ashes resumes at Emirates Old Trafford Stadium, Manchester after a break of 9
days.Contrevorsies and Ashes always walk together as we witnessed one at Lord’s and England took
revenge bouncing back at Headingley to keep the series alive.

Both the teams kept no stones unturned to come out on top as we witnessed the drama in all
the first three tests. So far we have seen the magic of Ben Stokes, dominance of Pat Cummins, controversies of Carey and Bairstow, roar of Starc, electric pace of Mark Wood and lots of thrills and suspense. Now we head to the west Old Trafford for the fourth Ashes Test.

Manchester is considered to be one of the most successful venues for English Cricket team. After the win in the third test, Ben stokes’ side would be blossomed with confidence and would see a definite chance to win two battles in a row at Old Trafford, but they can’t forget who they are playing against.Yeah, the current World Test Champions who have all the weapons and armors and zeal that it takes to beat England at Old Trafford although it’s their favourite venue.

With out-of-the box selection of Mitchell Marsh and dream run of Travis head Aussies shocked Ben Stokes and McCullum. Even the ‘Bazzball’ approach was outdone by the kangaroos. The only relief so far for the Aussies is that Steve Smith is silent till now but back of their mind will be the spectacular knock of double century- 211 in 319 balls of Steve Smith at this venue.English team would pray that the bat of Smith won’t roar back.

England has already announced their playing 11.There is only replacement so far as Ollie Robinson misses and makes a place for the living legend James Anderson.Whereas,Australians are yet to confirm their 11 warriors. There is a strong feeling that Josh Hazlewood can replace Scott Boland, who was not in colors and left wicket-less by the England players.

Mitchell Marsh would have also taken over David Warner who seemed to be ineffective in all the first three matches, but recently Cummins was seen backing David Warner.

“I think (Warner) has been going really well. I thought at Lord’s, he was really impressive. Last week, like many of us, he probably didn’t contribute as much as he would have liked with the bat,” Cummins said.

He also added: “He’s been out there over the last couple of days putting in a lot of work, but I think this tour he has shown a lot of good signs and hasn’t quite kicked on to make that big score. Some of those innings he’s played under really tough circumstances has made it easy for Smith to come in and score runs, or the like”. “We’ll chat about playing 11 later but I imagine it will stay the same,” Cummins said. So he has given a hint that may be it can stay the same.

England Playing 11(expected) :

Zack Crawley, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Ben Stokes (c), Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood,Stuart Broad and James Anderson

Australia Playing 11(expected) :David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Mitch Marsh,Cameron Green, Alex Carey (wk), Pat Cummins (c), Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood

Pitch Report:

Emirates,Old Trafford is the fastest track in England if we see the history. It is good for batting but will take spin later in the game. The pitch is known for the pace and the stats and results speaks the same. The pitch is a paradise for batsmen in the first innings and so the team that wins the toss here usually decide to bat first and put a score on the scorecard hoping for the victory. The bowlers have to be patient and consistent and by the 3rd and 4th innings once the footmarks are made, it makes a bit challenging for the batsmen and they start struggling to spin bowlers.

Prediction:

Manchester city is known for its unpredictable weather. There is rain in the last few days around Manchester and the same is predicted in the 2nd and 3rd day of this match. A draw seems to be the most likely result. Also in total of the 30 matches played between England and Australia,17 of them ended up being a draw.Australia can also be seen playing for a draw, which will be enough for them to retain the Ashes.

Prediction : DRAW
